Winter offers a unique and understated beauty for candid family photography. Recently, I photographed a family of four in their Dulwich home during a Christmas mini session. This session was all about capturing authentic, unscripted moments of family life, from playing with a wooden toy train to sharing gingerbread men. It was also a chance to document their little boy’s first Christmas—a milestone that felt both significant and ordinary.
A glimpse into the photoshoot
As a family photographer living in Dulwich, I offer mini Christmas photoshoots to my local families based around Dulwich, Peckham and Herne Hill. These sessions last about 45 minutes and are intentionally relaxed, focusing on the everyday moments that define family life. During this photoshoot, we started with natural family portraits by the Christmas tree, letting personalities shine without forced poses. From there, I captured the family engaging in simple activities that reflected their connection and the season—playing together with a wooden train set and enjoying festive treats.
